The Upper Primary Swimming Gala took place on Friday 26th February 2016 at The Annex 3 swimming pool.

Swimming is not just good for children’s health; it is a skill that could ultimately save their lives. Drowning is the third most common cause of accidental death in children so it is vital that every child has the opportunity to learn to swim and gain core knowledge regarding water safety.

Some of the objectives of the Swimming Gala were:
 To enable children develop and explore swimming skills with increasing control and co-ordination.
 To encourage children to work and play with others in a range of group situations.
 To develop the way children perform skills and apply rules and conventions to different activities.
 To increase children’s ability to use what they have learnt to improve the quality and control of their performance
 To develop the children’s creativity and imagination.
 To develop an understanding in children of how to succeed in a range of activities and how to evaluate their own success.
 To enjoy and have fun.

This was a great opportunity for swimmers to enjoy some friendly competition with their fellow swimmers in familiar surroundings of their own pool. All swimmers were encouraged to participate in the Gala.

There were races for everyone, not just for our more experienced swimmers who already compete. Outstanding swimmers were presented with certificates and the event was fun-filled.
