The Riara Road Primary School management took over the Balmoral Kindergarten in 1974. The kindergarten was previously a preserve for expatriate children from European, Israeli and Japanese origins. The school acquired its name from Balmoral road which after independence was renamed Riara Road. Therefore, the school is still called after the road along which it is situated.
The Riara Schools management ran the Kindergarten for ten years and due to demand for continuity, standard one was introduced in 1984. Since then, the school has expanded greatly in terms of enrollment and infrastructure. There are three main sections:-
Main School – has the main administrative offices and Standard four to eight.
Annex one – Standard one.
Annex three – Kindergarten, Standard two and three and Riara International School.
